Have you ever planted a tree in your life? Or have you found a bug in a software you've used?
During the Czech bank holiday on Friday 28th, we planted trees for the rest of all bugs found in version 5.5 R2 (the first portion of trees was planted in
spring 2011). For the first time in the history of “
Trees for Bugs” initiative, we got help from one of our partners – Jiří Francek from Dragon bits. Although the number of bugs was much smaller, we went forward and helped to plant almost 300 trees. By doing this, we actually also supported an attempt to smash the
world record in planting trees.
We planted an alley of plums, mirabelles and greengages following the road from
Vražné to Jesenik nad Odrou – the
map of trees shows only the trees dedicated to bug finders. Each tree is shown in the
tree gallery. Although we had a lot of fun during the planting, we took our job seriously, especially because some of the trees were dedicated to the loving ones as wives, children or parents (dads are missing for some reason). For the first time, one tree was dedicated to a loved dog in memoriam. On the other hand, it was also for the first time when a tree was dedicated to an unborn child – he is actually about to be born – probably very close to be the 7,000,000,000th citizen on Earth.
For all the work, we didn’t have much time to take pictures, but you can still find a few in the
Trees for Bugs Fall 2011 album.
We also cleared down the counter, country standings and the graph on the homepage of
the Trees for Bugs microsite. Now it shows the numbers for the latest version -
Kentico CMS 6. The
graph was also updated since we have two new development teams lead by Domink and Juraj. Let’s see what is their favour for nature. :)
For those who are curios of the final country standings in bug finding games for version 5.5 R2, the rank is not that far from the summer Olympic games (China is replaced here by the Netherlands). If we look at particular names behind the national flags - one person that found the most bugs - Jeroen Fürst from
IBL-Software, Breda, Netherlands, is a clear winner! Felicitatie!

Thanks for all who contributed – either by making Kentico better product by finding a bug or improving the environment by planting the trees!
What is next?
Kentico CMS 6 and Kentico Enterprise Marketing Solution is out and the counter of trees is cleared down. Although a tree lover, I wish to the new version that the number of bugs will be lowest possible so this fact will follow the first highly positive feedback we already got on it.
Trees for Bugs initiative continues!
